Brazilian contemporary architecture at the UFM

To lecture the conference titled Brazilian Contemporary Architecture, Architect Fernando Luiz Lara, from Taubman College of Architecture of Michigan University in Ann Arbor, visited the Francisco Marroquin University.

The conference was celebrated last August 7th 2006 and, during his visit at the UFM,
Fernando Luiz Lara met with UFM’s President Giancarlo Ibárgüen S., and the Architecture Dean, Roberto Quevedo.  He also spoke with faculty professors on how to teach architecture.

Lara is an assistant professor at the Taubman College of Architecture since 2004, and at the Architecture School of the Federal de Minas Gerais Univeristiy and the Pontificia Universidad Católica of Brazil.  He was Graduate Fellow at the Institute for the Humanities in Michigan University.

He is author of Designed Memories, The Roots of Brazilian Modernism and (In)disciplina consideracoes sobre a autonomia do ensino de prometo, among others.

He got the first prize in the architectural competition for the Symphonic Orchestra of Minas Gerais in May 2005.  He also received the Outstanding Dissertation Award, at the Michigan University in 2001 and the King Award for Research on the Built Environment that same year.

He has a Ph.D. and a M.Sc. in Architecture by Michigan University; and a M.A. in Semiótics from the Ninas Gerais Federal University and a B.A. in Architecture and Urban Planning at the same house of studies.

During his stay at the UFM campus, Luiz Lara visited the Academic Building, the New Media Digital Resources Center, the Ludwig von Mises Library and the Museums Popol Vuh and Ixchel.
