»D Magazine »received Huun Award 

Oswaldo Chinchilla, Dennis Mejía, Ingrid de Figueroa, Gemma Gil, Sébastien Perrot-Minnot and Estuardo Mata, during the ceremony

The Huun Award, given by the Popol Vuh Museum every year to the archeological journalism of Guatemala, was granted to Gemma Gil, Sébastien Perrot-Minnot and Dénnis Mejía, from D Magazine, by Prensa Libre, for its coverage titled The exploring count, that was published on November 20th 2005.

The Huun Award to Archeological Journalism is granted, since 2003, to the journalists and photographers, or illustrators, authors of the best written article on conservation, investigation and divulgation of archeology in Guatemala.

This years winning article is on Maurice de Périgny; French aristocrat, passionate, enigmatic and lonely explorer. Périgny was 28 years old when he discovered the Nahum ruins, a century ago. View the ceremony

During the same ceremony, Michael D. Coe, famous archeologist, professor emeritus of Yale University, coauthor of the book The real history of chocolate, and author of The Maya and Breaking the Maya Code, received the Orden del Pop offered by the Popol Vuh Museum of the Francisco Marroquín University.

In this occasion a copy of Kakaw was given to Roberto Figueroa, form the Puerto Quetzal Power Station, who sponsored the book´s second edition.

The ceremonies took place last July 25th 2006 at the Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Auditorium.  They were presided by Giancarlo Ibárgüen S., President of the Francisco Marroquín University.

At the lobby of the Auditorium was an exhibition on
Cotzumalguapas Culture, project directed by the Popol Vuh Museum Curator, Oswaldo Chinchilla, sponsored by the Museum, among others.
