The projection and perspective of the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, by of David Govrin, director of the Department of Strategic Planning of the Ministry of Foreign Relations of Israel, was the subject of the inaugural conference and inauguration of the academic cycle the Ibn Khaldun Research Center at Universidad Francisco Marroquín.

In his lecture, Govrin presented students and professors from the UFM’s Institute of Political Studies, an official perspective of the last facts that happened in the Middle East.  The subjects boarded were the conflict between Israel and Lebanon, the future of Iraq after Sadam Hussein’s execution and a perspective of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Govrin came accompanied by the consul of Israel, Cris Cantor, who has been collaborating at the IK Center and is professor at the Master degree in International Relations of this house of studies.  After the conference the visitors toured the campus and visited the Museo Popol Vuh.  The conference was celebrated last January 17th of 2007 at the Friedrich A. Hayek Auditorium.

As part of the academic agenda for 2007 the IK Center includes themes like terrorism and political processes, for which, they have contemplated to make academic connections with compatible organizations in Israel who may provide us with research resources and develop, in a medium term, a focused seminary on this thematic towards the Central American region, informed David Martinez-Amador, director of the Center.
