Geostrategy Symposium inagurated, at the UFM

The III Central American Symposium of International Relations and Political Science Students, on Geostrategy and Central America, was inaugurated on July 19th 2006, at the Francisco Marroquín University, by Pedro Trujillo director of the Institute of Political Studies and International Relations of this house of studies.

The aperture words were given by UFM’s President Giancarlo Ibárgüen S., and the inaugural lesson titled Ethics and Politics, was given by Ph.D. Armando de la Torre, director of the UFM’s Social Sciences School.  The students in charge of the inauguration ceremony were Lorena Bianchi, Phillip Chicota and Carolina Quiñónez.

The closing lesson, titled Towards a New State Model, will be given by UFM’s President emeritus, Manuel F. Ayau, on Friday 21st at 5:30 p.m. and the Foreign Relations Minister, Jorge Briz, will make an analysis on Central America’s Projection the same day at 9:45 a.m. at the Friedrich A. Hayek Auditorium.

During the Symposium, that will conclude on July 22nd, there will be conferences and discussion tables given and coordinated by UFM professors and guests.  More details available at

The assistants are students and professors from several Central American countries and Mexico.

«We are sure that the encounter will be an effort and opportunity for everyone, and will represent a space for a college encounter with multiple facets, in which the participation, ideas interchange, mutual knowledge, theme discussion, detailed analysis and academic debate will be promoted», explained Pedro Trujillo, EPRI’s director.

Akio Hosono, Ph.D. in Economic Sciences by the Tokyo University; United States of America, by
Alexander Featherstone, political counselor of the USA Embassy in Guatemala; Republic of Corea, by Rodrigo Montúfar, Ph.D. in Law; Mexico, by Alfonso Ramírez, executive of Bancomex;  European Union, by Ferdnand Sala, chief of the European technical assistance mission in the Central American customs unification project; China and Taiwan, by Antonio Yan, director of the Economics Department at the Feng Chia University; among others.  There will be discussion tables where the topic Central America facing economic and commercial challenges will be explored.
