Oncology Treaty was presented at the UFM

Pediatric Oncology Treaty, infant and adolescent malignant diseases, is the name of the book presented by one of its authors, Doctor Federico Antillón, last June 15th 2006 at the Friedrich A. Hayek Auditorium, of the Francisco Marroquín University.

The
Treaty, by Antillón and Luis Sierrasesúmaga is a textbook, in Spanish, about infant and adolescent malignant diseases, with information of well known authorities in the Pediatrics Oncology field, from Iberoamérica, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Canada and the United States of America.

The books presentation was made by Doctor Patricia Valverde de González, oncologist and pediatric hematologist, founding member of the Central American Pediatric Hemato-Oncology Association. The welcoming words were given by Doctor Federico Alfaro, dean of the UFMs Medicine School; and the closing words were offered by Doctor Edgar López, secretary of that academic unit.

The act was organized by the UFM’s Medicine School, Amigos de la Biblioteca Ludwig von Misesand Fundación Ayúdame a Vivir.  The video with the presentation will be available here, soon.

Federico Antillón graduated from the Francisco Marroquín University; he studied a master degree in pediatrics at the Clínica Universitaria and graduated in 1990, and got his Ph.D. in Cellular Biology at the Facultad de Medicina from the Navarra University in 1994.

Afterwards he continued his medical career with a subspecialty in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology in 1997 at the Saint Jude Childrens Research Hospital in Memphis.  He came back to Guatemala to work in a project for children and teenagers with cancer; and from that teamwork were created the Help me live Foundation ( Fundación Ayúdame a Vivir) (1997) and the Pediatrics Oncology National Unit (2000).  Antillón was the Medical Director of that institution since its creation.  In coordination with the UFM’s Medicine School and the Saint Jude Hospital he contributed to the formation of the master degree in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology in 2003.  In 2004, he got his Master in Medical Administration in a conjoint program with Tulane University and the Instituto Centroamericano de Administración de Empresas.  In the research area he has been author and coauthor of 71 medical articles in international magazines and journals, and 12 chapters of books with related topics.

Luis Sierrasesúmaga, is director of Pediatrics at the Clínica Universitaria de Navarra, director of Pediatric Oncology, and aggregate professor, head of pediatrics at the Medicine School of the Navarra University.  He is a Medical doctor by that same house of studies.  He has written and being a coauthor or 171 articles in international magazines and journals, and 76 book chapters.  He is member of 10 medical associations.
