Shortly, the work made at the Massachussets Institute of Technology, by Architect Axel Paredes, profesor at Universidad Francisco Marroquín, will be published in the new projects book from M.I.Ts Department of Architecture.

The thesis, titled Generative Opponents: A New Architecture for Native Soil, will be part of the chosen work of that university to show exemplar projects from last academic year.

In the thesis for the Master Degree in Architecture, presented by Architect Paredes last year, the design for an Ecologic Research Center is proposed in one of the deep mountain gorge at the city of Guatemala. For this project a series of analog and digital experiments were made in order to propose an innovative architecture from the available methodologies and use of industrial and organic materials like bamboo, wood, plastic and PVC.

The design methodology uses digital technology and experimental process to generate a non conventional architecture that goes beyond traditional architecture. The complex geometry of the building was solved after making several experiments in physical prototypes simulating its real construction and manipulating the design with different digital tools, explained Paredes.

The author made his masters degree with emphasis on Architectural Design and Digital Building. His thesis was revised by Yung Ho Chang, Chief of MITs Architecture Department; Axel Kilian, MIT professor and John Fernández, structure professor at that university.

The jury was integrated by Michael Bell, from Michael Bell Architecture and professor of Architecture at Columbia University; Dorothee Imbert, professor of Architecture and Landscaping at Harvard Graduate School of Design; Scott Marble, from Marble Fairbanks and professor of Architecture at Columbia University; and Angelo Bucci from SPBR Architects and professor at the Sao Paulo School.

Shortly the Ludwig von Mises Library, at the UFM, will have a copy of that thesis for reference, said Paredes.
