UFM celebrates Darwin´s day

Scenes from the movie The dangerous idea of Darwin

With the projection and discussion of the film The dangerous idea of Darwin, was celebrated Darwin´s day at the Francisco Marroquín University, last February 16th of 2006.

The corresponding forum was headed by Lourdes Corado, postdegree professor at the UFM´s Philosophy Department; and Roberto Blum, director of the David Hume Ethics Center of this house of studies.

In 1859 Darwin published The origin of the species, whose first edition of 1,500 units was sold the first day. The UFM has united to this events in esteem of the enormous benefits that scientific knowledge, acquired by means of human curiosity and talent, have contributed to the advance of  humanity.

Last year, Darwin´s Day was celebrated with a conference on The great events in Earth´s evolutionary history, by Sam Bonis, expert in volcanology; and in 2004, the celebration was in charge of the enthomologist Jack Schuster, who imparted the conference titled The evolution of evolution.
