UFM Professors in Seminar on Socratic Practice

A group of professors from Universidad Francisco Marroquín, from different academic units, is participating in the second part of the Seminar Kinds of Order in the Classroom: An Introduction to Socratic Practice, given by Albert Loan and organized by the Henry Hazlitt Center of this house of studies.

This academic activity is a follow up of the seminars that were given in November 2006 and January 2007.

In this occasion, the teachers based their discussions on the book The Habit of Thought: From Socratic Seminars to Socratic Practice, by Michael Strong.  During the same one other topics like intellectual property, the types of order in the classroom, the models of classrooms, the use of knowledge in the classroom, the Socratic practice as an organizing principle in class, and the creative powers in a free classroom.

Albert Loan gives the seminar on Socratic dialogue at the UFM, he is professor at The School of the Woods, in Houston, Texas; a private Montessori school.  He is expert in Socratic dialogue, graduate from the George Mason University and received an M.A. in Education in the Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts.

The seminar started last March 19 and will conclude the 23rd of this month.  The participants are Kassandra de Azmitia, Carla de Hess, Ingrid de Godo, Margarita de Urrea, Karen Cancinos, Ivonne de Suárez, Luis Figueroa, Marta Yolanda Díaz-Durán, Rossana de Gracioso, Jorge Luis Contreras, Coralia de Contreras and Yolanda de Sandoval.
