Von Mises Library celebrated the World Book Day

On April 23rd of 1616 Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare and Inca Gracilazo de la Vega passed away.  Also, on April 23rd, the writers Maoruce Druon, Karl Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo were born or died.

For those reasons it is that that date is symbolic for universal Literature and for that reason it is that, on April 23rd the World Book Day is celebrated.

The objectives of the celebration, observed at the Ludwig von Mises Library of Universidad Francisco Marroquín, are to pay a world-wide tribute to the books and their authors; as well as to encourage young people to discover the pleasure of reading and to respect the irreplaceable contribution of the authors to culture and progress.

The idea arose in Catalonia, Spain, where usually a book and a rose are given away to commemorate this day.

In the UFM’s library an exhibition of books by Miguel de Cervantes was mounted, to celebrate this event.
