The forums for congress and presidencial candidates, organized by the Institute of Policital Science and International Relations of Universidad Francisco Marroquín -and their student association- were celebrated last August 9th of 2007 with the participation of five candidates for congress in the national list from the parties that are ahead in the polls; and three presidential candidates.

The welcoming words and the introduction to the forum were given by Pedro Trujillo, EPRI’s director.

Both forums were moderated by Dionisio Gutiérrez, director of the television show Libre Encuentro.  The participants were: Eduardo Meyer, from Unidad Nacional de la Esperanza; Roxana Baldetti, from Partido Patriota; Eduardo Castillo, from Gran Alianza Nacional; Dina Castro, from Centro de Acción Social; and Nineth Montenegro, from Encuentro por Guatemala.  Also Rigoberta Menchú, from EG; Eduardo Suger, from Casa; and Alejandro Giammattei, from Gana.

The presidential candidates Alvaro Colom, from UNE; and Otto Pérez, from PP were absent.

“Even though the campaign keeps them confronted,  congress candidates in the national list from the five parties that are leading the polls agreed in the need to transform, modernize and recover Congress credibility.  The candidates agreed on the need for change, during a forum held at Universidad Francisco Marroquín”, reported the newspaper
“>Prensa Prensa Libre while informing about the forum.

The forum will be transmited next Tuesday August 14th at 10:00 p.m. in Guatevisión; or at 9:00 p.m. in channel 9 of Intercentro.  Also next Friday 17, at 12:00 noon on channel 9 of Intercentro.
