UFM’s Museo Popol Vuh, summons Huun Award

Museo Popol Vuh of Universidad Francisco Marroquín, annually grants the Huun Award for Guatemala’s Archaeological Journalism to the best written news report on a subject related with conservation, research and diffusion of Guatemalas archeology, informed Oswaldo Chinchilla, curator of the museum.

The prize has the following basis:

The participating news articles must be written in Spanish, published in Guatemala from June 1st 2006 and May 31st 2007.The articles must have a minimum of 5000 characters and can be on the following topics:General themes related to Guatemalas archeology.Archeology from the Pre-Hispanic period. Archeology from the Colonial or Independence Periods until the year 1900. Problems related with conservation and management of any region or archeological site in the country. A unique prize will be granted to the main author of the article, the photographer and the main illustrator who participated in making the article.The award will consist of a clasp, a diploma and a series of publications related to Museo Popol Vuh.To participate, the articles must be designed by the authors or other interested persons who should present a designation letter, an original and two copies of the article.The deadline to accept designations is June 15th 2007.The articles will be evaluated by a jury selected by the board of directors from Museo Popol Vuh.The following aspects will be evaluated on each article:Fidelity and precision. Writing quality.Presentation and illustration.The award will be handed during the XXI Symposium of Archeological Research in Guatemala (July 23 to 27th 2007).
