The Influence of Mayan Education on Middle School Students in Guatemala is the title of the study published by Ph.D. Yetilú de Baessa, director of the Psychology Department of Universidad Francisco Marroquín, at the Cultural Diversity and Ethnic Minority Psychology of the American Psychological Association.
The study was jointly elaborated with the doctor Toni Falbo, and is published in Volume 12, number 4, pages 601-614, of that
publication (PDF).
«One of the objectives was to examine the influence that attendance to Mayan secondary schools has in the acquisition of academic abilities in Guatemala. Another objective of the study was to examine the influence of Mayan schools in order to attain an ethnic identity», the study mentions.
Doctor Falbo is titular professor of Educative Psychology, Sociology and Asian Studies in the University of Texas in Austin. Doctor Baessa obtained her M.A and her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology in the University of Texas in Austin.
