Distinguished graduates received honorific degrees at the UFM.

Francisco Javier Novales, at the front, received the maximum distinction

Seventy one distinguished graduates of the Francisco Marroquín University received their academic honors at an act celebrated in the Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Auditorium, last Friday May 5th 2006.

Francisco Javier Novales, from Law School, was distinguished with Summa Cum Laude.

The welcoming words were offered by UFM’s President Giancarlo Ibárgüen S., while the words for the graduates were given by Francisco Pérez de Antón, who was distinguished with UFM’s honoris causadoctorate degree the next day.  Michael Deaver also received that distinction.

The distinguishing honors given by UFM’s President are:  Cum Laude, granted to those who have an average between 85 and 90; Magna Cum Laude, given to those who have an average between 91 and 94; and Summa Cum Laude, for those who have an average between 95 and 100.

According to UFM’s rules, those students who have an academic degree of baccaleureus, licenciado or magister can qualify to an honorific distinction based on their academic history, performance and behavior during their stay at the University, as well as a recommendation from the Dean.  When the academic degree requires a thesis, it should reflect a superior academic ability and have three favorable verdicts.

The UFM’s mission is to teach and diffuse the ethical, juridical and economic principles of a society of free and responsible persons.
