Freshmen students from the Psychology Department of Universidad Francisco Marroquín, accompanied by Director Yetilú de Baessa, authorities and professors of that academic unit, met with President Giancarlo Ibárgüen S.  In the meeting the administrative Vice President, Ottavio Benfatto, also participated.

During the encounter, the President talked about the
mission of the UFM that is to teach and diffuse the ethical, juridical and economic principles of a society of free and responsible persons; and the motivations of the founders of the University.

He also talked about the commitment of this house of studies with excellence, which is defined as “a superior quality that makes people or things worthy of singular esteem or appreciation”. President Ibárgüen explained that for the this house of studies, academic excellence is “the quality of ideas, principles and performance of those who, as professors or students, are habitually located over the simple material and routine fulfillment of their job, constituting before all a live example of coherent life”. Excellence understood this way “is only possible in a frame of freedom, competition and respect”.

This commitment with the excellence is contained in a
document that, as a contract with students and professors has been drafted in Universidad Francisco Marroquín. Ibárgüen also spoke of the importance of the evaluations of university professors and the responsibility of the students.

As examples of the success in the search of the excellence, the President showed the students some activities that are made in the UFM, such as the services of the
Ludwig von Mises Library, the
New Media Digital Resources Center, 
Museo Popol Vuh and the
Arboretum.  He also told them of the new tools in MiU, such as the blog, chat and Wikipedia.

Before concluding the meeting President Ibárgüen listen to commentaries from the students and answered their questions. The encounter was celebrated lasta Wednesday February 21st of 2007 at the Milton Friedman Auditorium.
